Iconic – II (Frontiers)

If the first Iconic album was great, this follow-up is nothing short of perfection. This is an outstanding hard rock release steeped in classic influences, where every note and every sound feels idealy placed. The band is firing on all cylinders, delivering phenomenal guitar work, a powerful rhythm section, and a melodic, versatile vocalist who gives the music a distinct identity.

This second opus from Iconic flows effortlessly, with one powerful rocker following another. The songs are consistently catchy and memorable, combining infectious melodies with plenty of muscle and intensity. Joel Hoekstra and Michael Sweet engage in an exceptional guitar dialogue, demonstrating an instinctive understanding of how to complement each other. Their interplay creates genuine magic throughout the album. Meanwhile, Tommy Aldridge and Marco Mendoza, who previously shared musical ground through their respective associations with Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy, bring their considerable experience and unmistakable chemistry to the table. In Iconic, they do what they do best, providing a rock-solid foundation for the music. Vocalist Nathan James is equally impressive, delivering a commanding performance with the range, power, and melodic sensibility these songs demand.

Iconic undoubtedly deserves its supergroup status. The musicianship is exceptional, the performances are consistently convincing, and, most importantly, the songwriting is every bit as strong as the talent behind it.

Iconic captures the spirit of hard rock's golden age while establishing an identity of its own. The influence of bands associated with these musicians is evident, with Whitesnake and Stryper among the most recognizable touchstones, alongside countless other acts that helped define the genre's classic era. Rather than simply revisiting the past, Iconic takes the finest elements of 1980s hard rock, blends them into a cohesive whole, and delivers a sound that feels both familiar and fresh. The album offers plenty of high-energy rockers guaranteed to get the pulse racing, balanced by power ballads that add depth and variety to the overall experience.

Clocking in at exactly 45 minutes, the album is perfectly paced. There is no unnecessary filler, no temptation to skip a track, and no sense that anything has overstayed its welcome. The entire record demands to be experienced from beginning to end, and once it finishes, reaching for the play button again feels almost inevitable.

One of the finest hard rock albums of 2026, Iconic has delivered a phenomenal release that honors the genre's legacy while reminding us just how powerful and timeless great music can be.
